Truck stop owner Michael Sandlin has imprisoned a tiger named Tony for more than a decade. We need you to send a letter to Governor Bobby Jindal to remind him that private ownership of big cats exists to protect both animals and humans.
H. 7838, which would ban the use of toxic lead in hunting ammunition in Rhode Island, received a hearing in the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. But, if the bill does not pass before the last day—now June 20—it will be dead.
We need you to CALL the chairman of the House committee to remind him to act on this crucial bill NOW. The Chairman is Rep. Arthur Handy, and his office number is (401) 785-8996. This call will be very easy and should last about one minute. Simply say “Hi, my name is __ and I am a Rhode Island resident. I would like you to please bring H. 7838 to a committee vote immediately.”
And, after you call, you can send a follow-up message to the committee members here.

A new bill in the Michigan legislature would increase the number of people who are allowed to trap beavers in the state. It’s bad enough that trappers can be licensed to kill beavers in Michigan, but S.B. 759 would overturn a century-old prohibition by adding fur dealers to those legally authorized to slaughter beavers. This would not only increase cruel trapping incidents, but also endanger the species. Beaver populations have been imperiled in the past, and their numbers may become critically low again. Tell your Michigan state representative that you oppose S.B. 759!
Louisiana bans nearly all private ownership of big cats. However, a dangerous new bill in the state legislature could undermine these common-sense restrictions, so we need you to speak out now!
