Pennsylvania residents, please contact your state legislators in support of S.B. 521/H.B. 575. This bill strengthens Pennsylvania’s exotic pet laws by prohibiting the private ownership of exotic wildlife, including bears, big cats, primates, and other potentially dangerous animals. People who already have such pets would be allowed to keep them, as long as they acquire a permit. The bill also expands and strengthens the definition of exotic wildlife and of exotic wildlife dealers, and prohibits the public from having direct contact with exotic wildlife at menageries.
These commonsense safety and animal welfare provisions are long overdue, as demonstrated by the ongoing incidents involving exotic pets. Check out Born Free USA’s database for more.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) proposed a rule to grant Lolita, one of the oldest captive-held orcas kept at the Miami Seaquarium, equal status as a member of an endangered species—just like her protected wild relatives. Lolita would have the chance to live out the rest of her days in her native waters off of the coast of Washington in the Southern Resident orca community (her pod), in the vicinity of her family.
We need your help to persuade NOAA to include Lolita as a member of her protected family and release her to her native waters. The deadline for comment submission is March 28.

As we fight the federal government’s attempt to remove gray wolves from the list of endangered species, some states are also engaged in their own assault on wolf populations. One of the most egregious examples is an Idaho bill (H. 470) that would allocate $2 million to wolf killing. That’s right—two million dollars. Please tell your state senator to oppose this bill—which has already passed the House!
