Status: Referred to the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, International Relations, and the Judiciary Committee. Referred to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

Action: SUPPORT. Steel-jawed leghold traps are cruel and inhumane and should be prohibited. Specifically, steel-jawed leghold traps grip tightly around the animal’s leg or other body part potentially causing the animal to experience lacerations, broken bones, joint dislocations, and gangrene. Moreover, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the World Veterinary Organization have all declared leghold traps to be “inhumane.”
