Bill Description: If passed, this bill would require the state Department of Health and Senior Services to adopt regulations prohibiting the overcrowding of animals at pet stores and other retail locations. The regulations would establish the proper care and housing — by species of animal — of animals at these retail facilities.

Overcrowding is a serious problem at pet stores. Specific housing requirements would ensure the safety and help to ensure the health of the animals housed in retail environments. These standards also would serve to reduce some of the stress that retail animals are subjected to when on the floor for sale.
