Perhaps one of my biggest naïveté’s is assuming that each generation following mine will be more progressive in their thinking than the last.

Perhaps that is true for the most part. We have seen many changes for the greater good being ushered in as new generations grow up and start becoming the decision-makers within our society. This has seen barriers being broken down, civil rights advancing, and has even seen the beginning of allowing the right for all to marry, equally.
But in getting carried away in this “the youngsters of the next generations will make all of the ignorance go away,” it is then quite a shock to see the youngsters of the next generation actually regress in their thinking. Case in point: Michelle Trachtenberg. I was very disappointed to see her attending so many Hollywood functions just drenched in fur. Some of you may remember Michelle from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appearing as Buffy’s little sister, “Dawn Summers.” Others may better know her as “Georgina Sparks,” from the new hit TV show Gossip Girl.
We saw this occur with Eva Mendez, when she graced a Hollywood appearance in a fur coat that was sent to her by her publicist. However, once she received a letter from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), educating her on how the animals comprising her fur coat died, not only did she shun fur, she became a PETA spokesperson against fur.
So, my hope is that Ms. Trachtenberg is so young and fresh in her blossoming career that she is just getting a little too caught up in the glitz and glam of Hollywood life. Perhaps there is still a chance to reach her? Or perhaps, it is just my naïveté rearing its ugly head, once again. Let’s give it a try to see if she will listen to us.
