A new building for the Sanctuary

in Blog

A busy week for the Sanctuary. Work has started on the construction of a much needed utility building. This will help make day-to-day work at the Sanctuary much smoother. The building will contain a new monkey food preparation area.
[teaserbreak] Temperatures have been very mild … and still no rain. This combined with the natural loss of greenery at this time of year has made for a very dry landscape.

Communication between Loekey and the three boys continues to be encouraging. This week I noticed Oscar grooming Loekey through the partition between the two enclosures. Oscar rarely deigns to “stoop” to grooming, preferring to be the recipient of this attention, so this is particularly promising. The next stage in the introduction process will be to open up the partitions and enable the four monkeys to have direct contact.

Lots of great food this week, including avocados and raspberries. Also, green onions, something that all the monkeys enjoy. They tuck into the root and discard the stems. As I walk around the Sanctuary, the strong smell of onions pervades the air.

Until next time,

Sarah
