Get creative for the animals

A lot has been reported in the news recently about the poor economy and how people are feeling the pinch and really cutting back on spending which includes giving to charitable organizations.

But a friend of mine recently made an interesting observation:

Many of “us” never had that much money anyway, and yet we still found ways to give back to our communities, raise awareness about issues we care about, and gave what we could. No, we we are not rich, never have been, and never will be, but we are just downright creative.

At Born Free USA we like it when our supporters get “downright creative” and have fun doing it.

A shining example of creative animal advocacy is offered by our friends Allyson and Chip. Through Chip’s gym The Body Tribe, where Allyson also works as a trainer, the two friends have utilized the gym to raise awareness and funds for animals. They have hosted several art shows to both educate about animal issues and to benefit Born Free USA by inviting local artists to sell work and donate portions of the sales to benefit Born Free USA. In addition, Allyson has utilized the gym to help homeless cats and kittens find permanent loving homes.

This past January, the Body Tribe again hosted a National Bird Day art show. In a single night $650 was raised! Not bad for these tough economic times! And best of all, everyone had fun and we got to spread the word about the plight of birds.

Thanks, Allyson and Chip!
