South Texas Beauties

Rattlesnake with prickly pear spinesNot too many people have a reason, or perhaps the good fortune, to find themselves visiting South Texas on a beautiful Spring day. Luckily, I have been fortunate enough to do just that when I spent a few days at the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary outside San Antonio. Aside from the obvious delight of seeing a snow monkey sitting high in a scrubby tree, I was amazed by how beautiful the landscape really was. I was also amazed by the incredible wildlife we were fortunate enough to see.

Great horned owl chick easier to seeThe first two shots are of a rattlesnake who apparently survived an epic battle with a prickly pear cactus and the second few are of a gorgeous great horned owl chick, about 10 days hatched.
