Update: Unfortunately, this bill did not complete the legislative process this session.
Bill Description: This bill would ban the use of leghold traps and Conibear traps in Connecticut.[teaserbreak]
Leghold and Conibear traps are arbitrary and antiquated. These devices case immense suffering and, furthermore, these devices are not species-selective. They can and do catch family cats and dogs and even endangered species. One tragic example of the cruel and non-selective nature of these devices occurred when a great-horned owl was found dragging herself across a road with a leghold trap snapped shut on her foot. The owl was rescued and taken to a veterinary hospital. However, due to complications from her injuries, she had to be euthanized.
