April 22, 2009 is Earth Day. But why just celebrate on one single day? Why not celebrate every day in April — or for that matter — every day?! Kermit the Frog used to lament about how “it’s not easy being green.” But that’s simply not true anymore! It’s easier than ever to do something positively green for animals, people, and planet — every single day of your life.

For instance, are you inundated with catalogs and other types of junk mail that you do not wish to receive? Did you know — on average — each of us spends up to 70 hours a year dealing with junk mail? I know that’s 70 hours I’d much prefer to use tending my vegetable garden, riding my bike, helping animals, volunteering, etc.
Well, I’ve got great news for you! You can lose 41 pounds in just five minutes while also doing something fantastic for animals and planet. Register with our April Partner of the Month, 41pounds.org. For $41 — that’s just $8.20 a year or 2 cents a day — 41pounds.org does all the legwork to reduce your junk mail and catalogs by 80–95% for five years. My husband and I signed up and it’s working wonderfully! And if by chance we get a new catalog we didn’t ask for, I just give 41pounds a quick call or email to ensure the company is added to our “no” list.
What’s better, for every sign-up via our site, 41pounds.org gives Born Free USA a donation. And … if we register at least 50 people during April, they’ll give us an additional generous donation! Unclog your mailbox, help the planet, help the animals. A definite win-win-win!
But don’t stop there, Earth Day activities are happening all over the country — all over the world for that matter. Check out some of these great Earth Day festivals, maybe there’s one near you. Our organization annually participates in Sacramento’s Earth Day — be sure to stop by our table if you’re in the area.
And if you’re participating in an Earth Day activity in your area — or just attending one — think of ways you can help bring the animals into the “green” movement. Sadly, sometimes animals are left out of the equation. Yet, Earth Day should also be about learning how to coexist with our wild neighbors too. After all, what’s a group of trees without animals living in and under them?
Every good thing done on behalf of the planet can have such a positive ripple effect that includes animals. And face it, it feels good to know you are doing your part. If every one of us did a little something every day … wow! Now that’s a planet worth celebrating!
Blogging off,
