International fashion designer and retailer Adolfo Dominguez has reached out to Born Free USA to promote to U.S. consumers its commitment to fur-free fashion.
[teaserbreak] The company has signed onto the international fur-free retailer program created and coordinated by Born Free USA that recognizes retailers who have committed, in writing, to a no-fur policy allowing consumers to make informed choices when shopping.Dominguez joins dozens of other retailers in the United States including Pier 1 Imports, Esprit, H&M and Mango. The program is also supported and endorsed by the Fur Free Alliance, an international coalition of 35 leading animal and environmental protection organizations worldwide.
According to Will Travers, Born Free USA’s chief exeuctive officer, “We are proud and grateful that an international company like Adolfo Dominquez is willing to take a very public stand against fur. Their company, like a growing number of compassionate fashion leaders, understands that they are not only protecting animals and the environment, but they are meeting the demands of savvy consumers who are choosing to be more ethical and socially responsible. There is nothing ethical or humane about the fur industry.”
Born Free USA’s goal is to end the sale of fur products throughout retail establishments by developing relationships with, and offering support to, retailers who have committed to a no-fur policy.
Retailers and designers can join the program at furfreeshopping.com by signing a letter agreement confirming their commitment against fur, that they will not sell any fur or fur trim items, and that they will develop an internal system to ensure their vendors do not supply them with items that contain real fur, including credible assurances that faux fur — including trim and accessories — is indeed not real animal fur.
Born Free USA is urging consumers to ask their favorite retailers to go fur-free. Taking an ethical and public stand against fur fashion offers a company a chance to promote a public policy against violence and cruelty, and to lend their support to the international efforts to end this unnecessary and cruel fashion choice.
Born Free USA is a nationally recognized leader in animal welfare and wildlife conservation. Through litigation, legislation, and public education, BFUSA leads vital campaigns against animals in entertainment, exotic “pets,” trapping and fur, and destructive international wildlife trade. BFUSA’s Primate Sanctuary in Texas is home to more than 500 primates rescued from laboratories, roadside zoos, and private possession.
BFUSA brings to the United States the message of “compassionate conservation,” the vision of the United Kingdom-based Born Free Foundation. Born Free Foundation was established in 1984 by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna, stars of the iconic film Born Free, along with their son Will, now CEO of both organizations. BFUSA’s mission is to end suffering of wild animals in captivity, conserve threatened and endangered species, and encourage compassionate conservation globally.
