Inspiring: Three years ago, a happenstance encounter at the wedding of a mutual friend allowed me to meet Tiger Darrow, a talented young singer/songwriter from Dallas who will, I firmly believe, have the music world on its knees quite soon. After that meeting, Tiger was inspired to write a single, “Beautiful Release,” that is available for download on iTunes. She gives all proceeds from that song to Born Free.

Tiger recently was on an East Coast tour and made a stop in Vienna, Va., for a concert that benefitted Born Free USA. Accompanied by her uncle on bass and sporting a Born Free T-shirt, she put on a wonderful performance that included “Beautiful Release.” From the stage, she made a point of mentioning, several times, her connection to the organization that we all care so deeply for.
Soon after, Tiger performed at The Bitter End, a club in Greenwich Village in New York City. You may have heard of it — a legendary haunt of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.
All the people who sign petitions, donate or take action in their communities to stop cruelty to animals are inspiring to me, but when a young person shares her talents to help this organization and all that we believe in, it is particularly heart-warming.
Inspiring: Earlier this month, we received a donation and a note from a fifth-grader in Ontario, Canada, who was so moved by an article in his city’s newspaper about raccoons being hurt that he researched animal welfare and found Born Free USA. Noah designed a class project on Born Free and collected pennies in exchange for jelly beans to donate to our causes, rallying all of his young classmates around his message.
Inspiring: We can also count on a talented 19-year-old who used her design skills to develop Kitsune Kaboodle shirts, of Japanese-style foxes, for sale on Café Press to benefit Born Free USA. And a 12-year-old artist whose elegant and colorful drawings of elephants were reproduced as note cards that we now sold on our online store.
It’s a cliché but it’s true: Children are our future. They are the animals’ future. Young or old, we all have the power to change the lives of animals. Will you join Tiger, Noah and all of the other up-and-coming activists to help Born Free USA keep wildlife in the wild?
