Annie, a 55-year-old elephant at Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in California, has been laid to rest. Torn from her mother in India at age 1, Annie was shipped to a Wisconsin zoo, where she was abused for years before being rescued by PAWS. Said a PAWS veterinarian: “Annie’s story is a gripping story, symbolic of so many elephant stories.”
