Exotic Pet Warning: Reptiles Are a Health Risk, Study Shows

Adding to the list of dangers associated with exotic pet ownership, a newly published British study finds that owning exotic reptiles such as snakes, chameleons, iguanas, and geckos could place infants at risk of salmonella infection. “Coupled with evidence of increasing ownership of indoor reptile pets,” the study explains, “the incidence of RAS [reptile-associated salmonellosis] hospitalisation [sic] is likely to increase.”
