January is “Adopt a Rescued Bird Month,” and there are plenty of birds in need of rescuing. According to Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, “Whether it’s birds or other exotic animals, there aren’t enough bona-fide sanctuaries that are suitably equipped to house and care for these animals.” Roberts stresses the importance of educating the public on all that’s involved in keeping a pet bird, adding: “Birds also have a very complex set of needs—behavioral, environmental and social needs.”
