Bill Description:
This bill would repeal the Dangerous Wild Animals Act, which was passed in 2014 and prohibits private ownership of most exotic animals. Read more about that law here.[teaserbreak]
Background:
The Dangerous Wild Animals Act represented a huge victory for public safety and animal welfare, and S.B. 247 would undo all this progress. West Virginia used to be one of only six states with no restrictions on exotic pet ownership — let’s make sure it doesn’t return to that category!
Check out our page on exotic pets for more details on why private ownership of wild animals is both cruel and dangerous.
Take Action:
West Virginia residents, contact your state senator and urge him or her to oppose this legislation!
