Keeping wild animals as pets poses serious public safety risks. S.B. 776, by Oklahoma Senator Randy Bass (D-Lawton), would place restrictions on the ownership, sale, and breeding of big cats, bears, and nonhuman primates in Oklahoma. The Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary in Dilley, Texas sees the dark side of exotic animal ownership firsthand. Its primate residents—now healthy and safe—bear both physical and mental scars from their former lives of isolation and/or abusive captivity.
