Cecil, Trophy Hunting, and Protecting Lions Globally

Following the senseless slaughter of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, conservationists have shined a spotlight on the pointlessness of trophy hunting—and, embarrassingly, the most prolific trophy hunters are Americans. According to calculations by Born Free USA (from official statistics), in 2013, 292 wild lion trophies were imported into the United States: almost six times the number imported into all other nations combined.
