Adam M. Roberts Talks about the Killing of Cecil the Lion, Trophy Hunting, and Wildlife Conservation

in Animal News

Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, discussed the brutal killing of Cecil the Lion, the trophy hunting industry, and wildlife conservation on “Conscious Lifestyles,” a radio program. In the interview, Roberts emphasized that it is a fantasy to suggest that trophy hunting helps local economies or aids in conservation, stating, “we must not confuse commercialization of wildlife with conservation of wildlife, and this is all about commercialization; it’s all about commodifying the individual wild animal.” Instead, real, effective wildlife conservation, being done by Born Free and other groups, focuses on protecting animals and empowering local communities.
