Bill Description:
This bill would ban the possession, transport, import, export, processing, sale, or shipment of many at-risk species, including the “big five” African species (African elephants, lions, leopards, black rhinos, white rhinos, and Cape buffalo) in New Jersey.[teaserbreak]
Background:
This bill was intended to curb trophy hunting. It was introduced after the tragic death of Cecil the lion, who was allegedly lured outside of Hwange National Park in Zimbabweand killed by an American hunter in July. His death was particularly gruesome because he was shot, beheaded, and skinned.
