Poachers Poison 14 Elephants with Cyanide in Zimbabwe

in Animal News

Over the past two weeks, 14 elephants have been poisoned by cyanide in Zimbabwe: just two years after poachers killed more than 200 elephants by poisoning. Three elephants were killed in Matusadona National Park and 11 more were found dead in two different spots in Hwange National Park. The ivory tusks had been cut off six elephants at one location in Hwange but the other five elephants still had their tusks, suggesting the poachers were disrupted. The motive for the killings in Matusadona was not known. No arrests have been made so far.
