The outcome of Thursday’s California Coastal Commission hearing signaled a significant victory for future captive orcas at SeaWorld San Diego. Though the commission had no legal standing to deny SeaWorld’s permit for its Blue World Project (a new 5.2 million gallon tank), it added a significant amendment to the approval… SeaWorld San Diego can no longer breed its orcas, and this amendment greatly restricts orca transfers. We hope that this leaves SeaWorld with no option but to eventually phase out their orca programs!
