In an interview with BBC, Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, is asked whether trophy hunting is a major factor in the demise of the lion population. Roberts responds: “Born Free’s research…has led us to believe that trophy hunting of lions is actually a huge problem. And, not just trophy hunting, but American trophy hunting, where American trophy hunters are taking hundreds and hundreds of animals each and every year and bringing the trophy back in these death kills.” Born Free USA hopes that the recent decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to increase protections for lions under the U.S. Endangered Species Act will help curb trophy hunting.
