Washington, D.C. — Today, on World Wildlife Day, Born Free USA announced a partnership in the U.S. with Patrick George Publishing. A portion of sales for the U.S. release of the publisher’s interactive children’s picture book, ANIMAL RESCUE, will be donated to Born Free USA. The book was released in 2015 in the United Kingdom.[teaserbreak]
According to Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, “ANIMAL RESCUE is a friendly, fun book with interactive transparent pages that is ideal for any family who loves animals, and particularly for young children to learn—in a gentle way—the power of wildlife belonging in the wild. We are thankful to Patrick George for supporting this issue, and for donating partial proceeds to Born Free.”
In ANIMAL RESCUE, the reader becomes a rescue hero. By allowing children to flip transparent pages to save animals from dangerous situations, the story introduces young readers to the importance of animal welfare, encourages awareness, and teaches children about the environment. The book is text free, which allows the reader to decide the appropriate level of input for the child.
Reviews:
“Animal Rescue presents the young reader/listener with a dozen animals put in dire situations through inconsiderate human activities such as intensive fishing, trophy hunting, battery farming, zoo keeping and so on. On each double-page spread, the simple act of turning an acetate page enables [you] to ‘rescue’ an animal by transporting it from, say, its reincarnation as a pair of boots, back to its natural habitat… Patrick George’s Animal Rescue avoids being over-didactic by allowing readers to make up their own narratives and draw their own conclusions. This also makes it a great resource for developing visual literacy skills, and works well with the very young.” – Children’s Books Ireland
“We loved this book! Animal Rescue is a great book for teaching children to care for animals. It was bold, colourful and the transparent pages create a fun experience.” – TheBabyWebsite.com
“It’s a gentle, yet incredibly poignant, introduction to the importance of animal welfare for the younger reader and allows them to choose the right habitat for each animal. Each page is vivaciously vibrant with pops of colour, undoubtedly appealing to young and emerging readers. This wordless story invites you to be your own narrator and decide upon which words are right for you. With the simple but ingenious use of transparent pages, it magically transforms the animal from a clearly inappropriate scenario to a much more appropriate habitat to for the animal, in a non-threatening way. With a turn of the page we can save our living creature from its awful fate.” – PictureBooksBlogger
