Born Free Laments Zambia’s Lion Hunting Quota

in Animal News

The Born Free Foundation is extremely disappointed by reports that Zambia’s Minister of Tourism and Arts has announced a hunting quota for 24 lions for the 2016 hunting season. Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, stated: “Born Free opposes trophy hunting on ethical grounds, and challenges the claim that the practice benefits species conservation or local communities. We urge the Zambian authorities to rethink the decision, and instead to focus on conservation and wildlife protection measures aimed at recovering lion populations in Zambia and the wider region, including through the adoption of a comprehensive management plan for the species.”
