At the Kansas City Zoo in Missouri on July 3, a seven-year-old orangutan named Kalijon got to the top of a wall surrounding her exhibit. Luckily, she returned to her enclosure without any contact with zoo visitors. In a separate incident at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida on July 1, an 18-year-old orangutan named Luna escaped her enclosure, was tranquilized, and was returned to her cage. Visitors were only feet away as Luna fell out of a tree. And, on June 16, a juvenile male orangutan escaped his habitat and entered a “non-guest facing area” at the same Busch Gardens.
