From September 24 – October 5, Born Free USA will attend the 17th Meeting of the Parties (CoP17) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which will gather 183 member countries in South Africa. The level of protection granted to many species will be renegotiated at CoP17—and the stakes are high for lions, elephants, rhinos, pangolins, African grey parrots, sharks and rays, African softshell turtles, barbary macaques, and exotic wood.
