The number of elephants poached in South Africa’s Kruger National Park has increased this year, up to 30 from 22 in 2016. According to a South African National Parks official, “youth unemployment made it easy for syndicates to make it into the park.” However, this year also brings some good news: rhino poaching in the park is down by 34 percent and 90 poachers had been arrested inside the park.
