Captivity, Conservation, and the Big Cat Public Safety Act on Cats of the Wild Podcast

in Animals in Captivity

Thousands of big cats, like tigers, lions, and leopards, are held in cruel captivity as pets or in roadside zoos across the United States, living unnatural lives of isolation and confinement. Many of these animals are also forced into close interactions with humans during photo ops and cub petting events. The Big Cat Public Safety Act is a federal bill that would prohibit private ownership of these animals and also ban public contact with them, preventing the suffering of captive big cats and protecting the public from these dangerous wild animals.

Born Free USA Campaign Associate, Devan Schowe, sat down for Wild Missions’ Cats of the Wild podcast to talk about the problem of big cat ownership, how it impacts the conservation of cats in the wild, and the desperate need to pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act.
