Snakes in Cans and Birds in Pants: Inside the California Exotic Animal Trade

In California, it is illegal to own exotic animals without a permit from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). But, a three-month investigation by NBC Bay Area and NBC4 LA found that those laws do little to curtail the sale of exotic animals, from reptiles like snakes to monkeys and even big cats.
