A new arrival

in Blog

We were fortunate not to suffer the severe storms that hit most of south Texas last week in the wake of Hurricane Dolly. We experienced rain, strong winds and a slight cooling in temperature.

On Friday, Logan, a 12-year-old “pet” snow monkey arrived at our Sanctuary. His “owners” had spent many months deliberating before reaching the difficult, but morally correct, decision to enable their much-loved monkey to live in a natural environment with others of his kind. Logan had been raised in a human household and not been with or even seen another primate since he was just a few weeks old.

Arriving by car after a long journey, Logan immediately became alert on seeing and smelling the hundreds of other monkeys around him. Once he was released into one of the Sanctuary’s introduction enclosures, he was understandably overwhelmed by his new surroundings and spent time just looking around. It will take a few months for Logan to settle in and make friends, but with the removal of his harness and leash that has restrained him over the years, he can at last start to live a life close to normal for a monkey.

We will keep you updated as Logan settles into his new life.

Until next week,

Sarah
