Born Free Speaks Out Against the Killing of Zoo Animals

in Animal News

On page 18 of the June 2015 issue of Veterinary Practice, Born Free Foundation’s Mark Jones and Chris Draper write a letter to the editor about the killing of zoo animals for “management” purposes. Jones and Draper explain, “The keeping and management of animals in zoos may involve the killing of healthy animals for management purposes, a practice that raises a number of ethical issues. The killing of Marius the giraffe at Copenhagen Zoo last year resulted in considerable public interest and debate, and some searching questions about the ethical review processes which should drive zoo management practices.”
