Born Free Stands Up for African Lions

Over the past 21 years, the number of lions has almost halved as demand for their bones for Chinese medicine has soared. The Born Free Foundation is calling for global action to halt the “catastrophic recent declines” in African lion populations after a report by the International Union for Conservation of Nature shows lions have disappeared from 12—possibly 16—African countries. Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, warns, “These iconic animals can’t wait… The trade data suggests that international trade in lion parts and products is putting pressure on these vulnerable lion populations, which they clearly can’t sustain.”
