Born Free CEO Speaks Out against Trophy Hunting

Amid the backlash from the illegal killing of Cecil, a famed lion from Zimbabwe, controversy over the practice of trophy hunting is heating up. According to Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, “It’s a fantasy to suggest that what these wealthy, elite American hunters are doing is somehow benefiting the species in the wild. This is about bloodlust for entertainment. It’s a thrill kill. And, when you take an individual animal—whether it’s an elephant, or a rhino, or a lion—out of their family system and out of their ecosystem, it does nothing to enhance conservation.”
