Pittsburgh Zoo Leaves Accrediting Group following Differences over Elephant Handling

It seems that even the standards of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums are too strict for the Pittsburgh Zoo. Limiting public contact with elephants seems like a no-brainer for protection of both the animals and the public. However, the Pittsburgh Zoo disagrees. Clearly, it’s more invested in continuing a tradition of exploitation than in making any concessions for animal welfare and public safety.
