A two-year-old beluga whale named Stella died at SeaWorld’s San Antonio park on November 13. This marks the third beluga death at SeaWorld in 2015, after an infant whale died at San Antonio in June and a male named Nanuq died at Orlando in February. While the cause of Stella’s death is not known, what is clear is that these intelligent marine mammals cannot thrive in concrete tanks. The park says that it is “deeply saddened” by the loss, but this statement rings hollow as the company continues to exploit animals for profit.
