Five months after Cecil the lion was killed by an American hunter in Zimbabwe, Cecil’s son, nicknamed Xanda, has been observed mating with lionesses. Scientists expect to see the grand offspring of Cecil born in March. Meanwhile, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared on December 21 that lions will receive increased protection under the Endangered Species Act: a decision that took four years to make. According to Born Free USA, at least 2,232 African lions were killed and then brought into the U.S. in that four year period, including Cecil.
