An Asian elephant named Chai—whose confinement in Washington’s Woodland Park Zoo was a topic of controversy among Seattle residents—has passed away, just one year after she was moved to Oklahoma City Zoo. Her cause of death is not yet known, but many believe that the stresses of lifelong captivity could have contributed.
