On June 18, a woman named Karen Williams went running through the Valles Caldera National Preserve in New Mexico. She was attacked by a bear, escaping with scratches, broken bones, and blood loss. New Mexico law states that any bear who attacks a human must be killed—but Williams spoke out to try to protect the bear. Sadly, despite her protests, the bear was euthanized the next day. “Tragically, human/wildlife conflict usually results in lethal consequences for wild animals,” said Born Free USA.
