A newborn calf at the Brookfield Zoo died of unknown causes. A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause.

Firefighters putting out a fire at a residence discovered 28 snakes – six of them deadly (5 rattlers and 1 gaboon viper). The snakes were kept without a permit and were confiscated by the UT Division of Wildlife.

Two capuchin monkeys escaped their enclosure when a zookeeper failed to secure a lock after cleaning. One primate was captured shortly afterward, however, the other remains at large. Officials have set up traps, but fear the that capuchin may have succumbed to the high temperatures in the area.

A Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey tiger trainer was injured during a show. Although circus officials claimed the injury had nothing to do with the animals, eye-witness accounts suggested otherwise.
