July 12, 2011 Alton, IL A homeowner called authorities and reported that a large lizard was lounging on a widowsill at her home. Animal control caught the 4-foot Nile monitor lizard, believed to be a former pet, and will hold him for 7 days, at which point he will be turned over to the IL Dept of Natural Resources if the owner does not claim him. July 9, 2011 Daytona Beach, FL Ormond Beach police were tipped off to illegal drug activity and several venomous snakes kept as pets. Agents found marijuana plants along with vipers, Burmese pythons, rattlesnakes and a water moccasin. The snakes were seized as required permits were not obtained. Reptiles
July 7, 2011 Quitman, TX A snake breeder from Oakdale who was on the lam for seven months is expected to be returned to Allen Parish next week to face animal cruelty charges. David Beauchemin was arrested on a warrant stemming from a March 2010 raid on his shake business where authorities seized more than 75 snakes. Beauchemin was charged with 21 counts of cruelty to aimals and one count of possession of snakes longer than 12 feet without a permit. Reptiles
July 6, 2011 Elk River, MN A 9-year old girl was bitten by a monkey at Wapiti Park Campground in Elk River. The owner of the monkey was visiting friends at the park and had the monkey in a cage. The girl approached the cage and was subsequently bitten. The monkey was a service animal. The girl was not seriously hurt. Primates
