While investigating a home, police found a 4-year old boy with severe burns from a blowtorch and several exotic animals, including an alligator and snakes. The conditions inside the home were unlivable, with exposed wiring, floors stained with excessive amounts of urine and feces, and a vandalized furnace and water heater that were pumping carbon monoxide into the bedrooms. The Cascades Humane Society temporarily took in the alligator.

Ivy, a 15-year-old Mexican wolf, was found dead in her enclosure of unknown causes.

Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confiscated a rattlesnake from a condo. The owner now faces a misdemeanor charge for having the illegal, venomous snake without a license.

Nani, a 44-year-old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, died suddenly of unknown causes.

A newborn baby sloth died. The causes are unknown, but the zoo veterinarian believes it was an infection of the lower digestive tract.

A 1-year-old common marmoset named Zoe was stolen from her owner’s yard by a neighbor. That neighbor sold the monkey for $900. The neighbor was arrested and charged with grand theft, but the monkey has not been recovered.

A baby caiman was found in very poor condition in a dirty glass aquarium with several dead fish behind a vacant house. The reptile was unresponsive and “freezing” to the touch, but survived. Animal Care Services is working with wildlife experts to find the most appropriate place for the animal.

A tiger got spooked during a performance by “Nerger’s Splendid Tigers” at the Martin County Fair. Some people watching the show reported that a tiger got loose, but the tiger’s trainer denies it.

Packy, a 54-year-old Asian elephant, was euthanized. Packy had been diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2013, and although it was treated, it came back in 2016. Although antibiotics were not effective the second time around, Packy did not seem to be suffering.

Bob, a pet ball python, got stuck inside a key ring. Firefighters used petroleum jelly and an oxygen tube to free him.
