Two black and white lemurs, a male and female, passed through a gate left open that morning by a zoo keeper. They remained inside the zoo grounds, and were captured and returned to their exhibit an hour later.

A manhunt began after a policeman stopped a vehicle containing two men, a woman, a dog, and a 6-foot-long python. Thomas Neal Evans fled the vehicle. The python was turned over to the driver of the vehicle, who was released.

A 9 1/2 foot boa constrictor escaped from a private yard. An officer found the snake several hours later wrapped up inside the engineer compartment of the owner’s truck.

A pilot whale named Bubbles died at SeaWorld San Diego. Bubbles, who was captured in the wild at a young age, spent over two decades at Marineland in CA before being moved to SeaWorld in 1987.

Branden Ashley Rowell was arrested with 2 1/2 pounds of methamphetamine and a 3 1/2 foot long alligator. Game wardens took the alligator.

Three 8-foot pythons went missing while the owner was out of town.

A 4-year-old leopard named Zeya escaped from her enclosure at Hogle Zoo. After she was spotted outside her enclosure, guests were ushered into nearby buildings. She was located and tranquilized within about half an hour by zoo personnel.

Police officers captured a ball python found on a driveway. It is believed to have been someone’s pet.

George, a 44-year-old white rhinoceros, was euthanized due to deteriorating health. He lived at the zoo for 40 years.

A 5- to 6-foot-long red tail boa constrictor was reported stolen from an enclosure in the backyard of a residence. Police searched the area.
