An 8-foot alligator was kept illegally in a residential yard for as long as 40 years. The animal was confiscated and taken to the Los Angeles Zoo where it will remain until an investigation is completed. It is illegal to own an alligator in the state of California without proper permit.

Two cotton-top Tamarin monkeys died after inadvertently being left out overnight in the cold by a zoo caretaker. One other monkey survived.

A California woman finds a 5-foot boa constrictor coming out of the toilet in her office bathroom. Animal control captured and took the snake to a veterinarian for assessment. The origination of the snake is unknown.

A 10-year-old tamarin froze to death during a power outage at the Forest Park Zoo. One of the monkeys belonged to a rare species.

Officers responding to a house fire find several tigers in a shed attached to the house dead from smoke inhalation. Authorities had not known tigers were being kept as pets at the residence.

A 19-month-old marmoset monkey died as a result of injuries suffered in a fight with other monkeys.
