October 15, 2013 Struthers, OH A couple was arrested after more than 100 snakes, along with a Gila monster, a monitor lizard and iguanas – among others – were found in containers and roaming free throughout their home. The two are owners of The Boa Store, an online store that sells snakes. The face child endangering charges and charges violating regulations on ownership and sale of exotic animals. Reptiles
October 11, 2013 Springfield, MO A zookeeper was killed by an elephant at the Dickerson Park Zoo. The man was coaxing the female elephant named Patience with a guide when she she suddenly lunged forward, knocking him down in a chute killing him. Elephants
October 10, 2013 Baltimore, MD The Maryland Zoo reported that a female lion named Bada has died just days after giving birth to twins. After the live births, veterinarians found two stillborn cubs in the mother. Big Cats
October 8, 2013 North Lakeland, FL Several reports of a monkey on the run were called in by North Lakeland neighbors. Later, Fun Bike Motorsports posted a statement on their Faceook page stating that the monkey was their mascot called Barnaby and warned residents that he bites, and to contact them with sightings. October 2, 2013 Warwick, RI More than a dozen animals, including 13 snakes, geckos, and an alligator in a bathtub, were found crammed into an apartment after police were called to investigate a domestic assault. The animals were confiscated. Reptiles
October 1, 2013 Salerno, FL Authorities in Florida captured a 10-foot albino Burmese python that apparantely ate ate least 2 cats. Burmese pythons are not native to Florida and the prohibits ownership of these animals. The snake was turned over to the FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Reptiles
September 30, 2013 Oahu, HI A motorist ran over and killed a 5-foot long boa constrictor on the Pali Highway. Boas are not indigenious to Hawaii and they are not allowed to be kept as pets. The incident was reported to the HI Dept. of Agriculture who took possession of the dead snake. Reptiles
