A giraffe at the Dallas Zoo has been euthanized after dislocating his jaw in an “unexpected fall.”
Ferrell, a 15-year-old giraffe, died on December 31st after falling in the barn. According to the zoo, veterinary teams and a surgical consultant could not repair the injury to Ferrell’s jaw, mostly due to a previous injury to his jaw 13 years ago, which resulted in issues with his tongue. After the initial injury, he was unable to keep his tongue in his mouth.
