A snare trap accidentally killed an adult female wolverine. Idaho has not allowed a hunting or trapping season for wolverines since 1965.

Out with his owner on a mowed designated public land access in Watts Flats Wildlife Management Area, a dog named Axl, was caught in a conibear trap. Unfortunately, the incident was fatal.

A dog has died after being caught in an animal trap at Kirk Park.

On Saturday, the owner and her dog, Nala, were taking a walk in Kirk Park when the trap went off. The dog’s head became stuck in the trap. The owner tried to save her, and deputies arrived within minutes, but it was too late.

Tami Schroeder, told KEZI they are not sure who set the trap, but it’s not allowed. “When we receive reports like the one we did yesterday… within our resources, we get out and inspect the area as quickly as we can. In the case of the incident yesterday, we did not see any traps in Kirk Park yesterday afternoon. When we get these reports, we look into them and follow up with local law enforcement as appropriate,” Schroeder said.

Kitten caught in steel jawed trap and severely injured. Initially saved from the trap, it was unfortunately euthanized as it was underweight and unable to eat on its own. The trap was placed near a koi pond to protect the fish but deputies were unsure whether that was legal.

A leg-hold trap was placed approx 10-15yds off of a well-used hiking trail near the Red Mountain Trail – North. Out with her owner, a dog named Annie, got trapped for 25 minutes. The incident resulted in cuts, swelling, and bruising.

Local trapper reported finding a dead wolverine in a trap in east-central Idaho. The wolverine was caught by accident and will be mounted for educational purposes at the Fish and Game office.

Deb Johnson got the foot of her rubber boot caught in a shoreline animal trap during kayaking trip in Emery Creek. Luckily, her toes were spared and she was able to wriggle out of the boot. With the help of 2 men and a stick, they were able to release the trap and grab her boot. Trap was removed and therefore unable to determine if there it was set according to regulations.

A wolf was caught in an illegally laid trap in Umatilla National Forest in Oregon. When the trapper found the trapped wolf, he shot the wolf, killing the animal. The trapper pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Taking of Wildlife—Unbranded Traps.

A golden retriever suffered serious injuries after being caught in a leg trap tucked away in a bush on a popular hiking trail, Little Red Rock, near Las Vegas. The pup broke teeth trying to get the trap off but was able to break free. The trap is believed to be illegally placed since it had no tags showing the owner, was not 30 feet away from the bait, and also placed along a frequented trail when Nevada DWS says to avoid these areas.

While out on a neighborhood walk, Lucy, a goldendoodle, wandered from the community trail and into a neighboring pond where she caught her paw in a Conibear trap meant for muskrats. She sustained superficial injuries, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says that the traps were legally set.
